Kamerkoor Waelrant

Open Competitie - 7 - Musica Sacra a cappella

Land: België
Dirigent: Katelijne Malomgré

VZW Waelrantkoren is a non profit organization that includes eight choirs:

• Preparatory children's choir for 4-7 year olds

• Kinderkoor for children from 7 to 12 years

• Kinderkoor+ for children from 10 to 15 years old

• Popkoor: for young people between 12 and 20 years old

• Jeugdkoor (mixed) for young people from 15 to 26

• Camerata: a selected group singers from Youthchoir and Chamber Choir

• two choirs for adults: Chamber Choir (for the more experienced choir singer) and Waelrant beKOORt.

Openness is central to all these choirs. Everyone is welcome to come and sing in one of the 8 choirs. The Waelrant choirs counts almost 300 singing members. Despite the fact that everyone is welcome and therefore no minimum criteria are set for the singers, they want to monitor quality very well in all Waelrant choirs. All projects that the Waelrant choirs organize, small or large, always aim to enrich the musical experience of the many singers. In the larger productions, the organization tries to offer the opportunity to be part of the musical project to as many members as possible.

In Kamerkoor Waelrant the singers are happy to devote themselves to the larger choral music. They have already performed works by Bach (Weihnachtsoratorium and various Cantatas), Brahms (Ein Deutsches Requiem), Mozart (Requiem), Mendelssohn, Verdi (Requiem), Duruflé (Requiem), Stravinsky (Psalm symphony), Orff (Carmina Burana) , John Rutter (Magnificat), ... For these works, they were always accompanied by a professional orchestra.

The chamber choir enjoys also the more intimate a cappella choral music. At previous concerts, the choir gave convincing prformances from an extensive range of music, from Renaissance to contemporary choral music by Flemish and international composers. In all genres, the chamber choir always wants to grasp the essence of the text and work on an expressive interpretation.

VZW Waelrantkoren strives for an open, warm but above all inquisitive atmosphere in which choir singers of all ages are always prepared to discover the music passionately. In addition to musical quality, they also enjoy the pleasure of making music together.

Hubertus Waelrant (+ 1517–1595) was a Flemish composer, teacher and music publisher, who worked in Antwerp for most of his life. His grave is located in the Antwerp cathedral.
