This programme, incorporating Original Pronunciation, explores the works of the English Madrigal School in an age of rhetorical persuasion, when the Italian madrigal style was brought over to England. This was perhaps the height of persuasive consort singing in England, with rhetorical and musical techniques working in harmony. Composers include John Dowland, John Wilbye, Alfonso Ferrabosco the Elder and John Ward.
InVocare was born from the AVES (Advanced Vocal Ensemble Studies) programme at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis specialising in English and Italian madrigals from the 16th and 17th centuries. Originating from 5 continents they are keen madrigalists who work with unconventional settings on stage and different uses of the spoken word.
2020 sees InVocare singing in festivals including the Utrecht Early Music Festival, Laus Polyphoniae, Meer Stemmig Gent, AlbaNova, and others.
