In the heart of Ghent, you will find the beautiful Saint Bavo Cathedral. A unique building with a long and rich history. In the 10th century already, the first parish church of Ghent was located on the very spot where the cathedral can be seen today. Traces of the subsequent Romanesque church, which dates from the middle of the 12th century, can still be found in the crypt, which is richly decorated with murals. But the appearance of the building as we know it today, in an impressive Gothic style, dates from the 16th century. It was also then that the church became the cathedral of the diocese of Ghent.

However, not only the architecture makes jaws drop. The cathedral also houses several art treasures, with the world-famous Mystic Lamb by the brothers van Eyck as the eye-catcher.
